Old homes have a lot going for them - character, craftsmanship, details you just don't see in newer construction. What they don't always have is a roof that's keeping up with the rest of the house. That's exactly the situation we were working with on this early 1900s home in Northeast.

Here's the thing about older roofs - by the time you notice a problem inside, the damage has usually been building for a while. Worn underlayment, compromised decking, and failing shingles don't announce themselves until water is already finding its way in. Getting ahead of that is the whole point.

We're using GAF Timberline HD shingles on this one. They're one of the most trusted shingles in the industry for good reason - they hold up, they look sharp, and they're built for long-term performance. For a home that's already lasted over a century, they're a fitting upgrade.

The goal on a job like this isn't just to slap down new shingles and call it done. It's to make sure the whole system - underlayment, flashing, decking, everything underneath - is solid before a single shingle goes on. That's what actually protects the home.

Older homes deserve the same level of care and attention that went into building them. A well-done roof replacement doesn't take away from the charm - it makes sure that charm has another hundred years to stick around.
